Biography
Hi, I'm Mariam! I am an aspiring Creative Director studying Fashion Design with a minor in Fashion Business at Parsons School of Design. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, I grew up around the arts, Islam, and my rich Pakistani culture.
Hobbies
I love trying new activities and experimenting with design. I like to take inspiration from what is around me, often including nature and the community. I also enjoy cooking and trying out new cafes to explore the local area, so if you ever want to get a coffee, I'm your person!
Artist Statement
My biggest inspiration as an artist is observing the struggles we face and how we overcome them as a populace. A concept that has always intrigued me is the daily interactions we have and how we occupy space– whether it’s by reconstructing our environment or voicing our expression through materials. The relationship between what challenges me and my own existence is dynamic; I shape my environment just as it shapes me. Through my art, I aim to explore these connections by using a variety of classic and unconventional materials to create manipulated compositions. This approach allows me to introspect on myself and the world around me, creating artworks that reflect the nuances of these interactions.
